Our furniture-making duo of Jack Bibbings and Matthew Hensby makes contemporary wooden furniture with a focus on functional craftsmanship and designs that build on inherited vernacular traditions. Having first met in 2017 while studying furniture making, we soon discovered a shared interest in the vernacular history of furniture making. It led us to establish our two-man workshop in an old, disused stable block in Limehouse, East London, UK, in 2019.

The Bibbings & Hensby approach to furniture making has much in common with that of the generations of traditional furniture makers who have gone before us. We predominantly use hand tools to produce practical, everyday pieces of furniture suited to contemporary homes. Rather than producing modern furniture using modern processes, or using traditional processes to produce traditional designs, we marry traditional craft with contemporary design to produce work that feels both honest and relevant.
