“I first built a kayak about 15 years ago. I have a young son, Emiel – well, he’s not so young anymore – but he wanted to go kayaking with me when he was young. We started out on little lakes and canals and when he was aged six or seven, he said that he wanted to go with me on the trips I do. I thought it was perhaps not that safe for him to be in his own kayak, so we built a very rudimentary canoe back then. And then we built another canoe for a friend, and it just grew and grew.”
