I’m Maya, a 31-year-old artist, printmaker and tattoo artist from Bochum, Germany. Under the stage name Maya Mysteria, I have been working as a tattoo artist for more than six years. Due to the pandemic, however, I have barely been allowed to do my actual job, which has pulled me down a lot. Actually, it was only because of this that I started making prints out of necessity. My previous training as a goldsmith means that I’ve always had a soft spot for handmade things. It was clear to me from the start that I wanted to create more traditional prints.
As a printmaker, I set up my fine little studio in our beautiful old building where I live with my husband. As a designer himself, he has supported me in this project from the start. There in my studio, I have the opportunity to pursue my passion for printing and drawing at any time of the day or night. Even though I started making prints only about a year ago, space is already getting tight. My 40-year-old plan cabinet and my more than 100-year-old printing press alone take up a large part of the studio.
