The Posticherie, based in East London, UK, specialises in handmade woven hair design. The French word postiche, meaning ‘hairpiece’, is a term used to describe a variety of false hair items: wigs, ponytails, extensions and facial hair. Setting up the business in 2013 was initially a way to explore the creative possibilities of hair design and follow a passion for experimentation and collaboration.

I have been working within the television and film industry making wigs and hairpieces for more than 12 years. My interest in headwear began while studying costume design at university, where I completed a wig project in my second year (using wool and strips of PVC!) followed by a specialism in millinery. This led to my becoming a prop/costume maker, and then a deputy wardrobe mistress in London’s West End. These combined experiences inspired me to retrain and hone my skills to become a wigmaker.
