My name is Valentin Felder. I live in Leipzig, Germany, and I’m a stop-motion animator, armature maker, mechanical artist, filmmaker and inventor. It’s hard to find fitting labels because I do many different things and have never earned any official titles. It all started nine years ago, when I was 18 years old. With a friend, I began working on a stop-motion short film titled An Unwound Clockwork, bringing together my love of movies with the joy of creating miniature characters and scale models.
The story is set in a fictional society consisting of humans and robots in a dystopian environment, and deals with topics such as social injustice, human environmental impact and transhumanism. Despite the seemingly futuristic set-up, the visuals are heavily inspired by the Victorian period and the steampunk aesthetic. Our ideas were very ambitious, with a lot of characters and sets and a high level of detail. To cut a long story short, I’m still working on it. At the time of writing, about 20 minutes are complete, with about 10 minutes more to go.
