I have two businesses: I am Holly Suzanna Clifford, art jeweller and silversmith, creating colourful one-off pieces from bio-resin, vibrant paint and precious metals; and I’m the maker behind Contour Map Collection, producing topographical map metal wall art and jewellery. While these two sides of my creative practice have quite different aesthetics, what ties them together is my interest in layering. Layers of swooshy brushstrokes versus layers of flowing contours. They catch the eye and draw you in, lifting the 2D to make it alive and 3D.

I started creating my ‘wearable art’ right from the off, running with ideas and processes I’d been working on during my final year at uni to develop a more commercial degree show collection. Experimenting with ways to incorporate into jewellery my love of painting and the textures you find in artworks, I finally settled on using bio-resin built up in layers to contain expressive and colourful brushstrokes. I enjoy the element of surprise and play that this process allows, making each piece unique. Much of my work has a very botanical influence, which has migrated from the theme of the paintwork to the silverwork that surrounds it.
