I am Živilė, originally from Lithuania. Having studied fine art in the UK, I travelled to Indonesia in 2016 to learn batik, a traditional textile craft art. After almost a year’s experience, I returned to Europe slightly confused and deeply affected by the amount of plastic waste I had seen in Indonesian streets and rivers and in the ocean. When I came back home, I understood that it is not much different here in Europe. We just have better infrastructure to hide the amount of plastic we consume.
