For more than 225 years, Johnstons of Elgin has been a thriving mill producing knitwear and accessories of the finest quality. We Are Makers spoke to five artisans based in Elgin and Hawick about their own special niche and what it means to be part of the business.

Hand Knit Assistant, Elgin
What is it that you do and how do you do it?
I work in the Hand Knitting department at Johnstons of Elgin, where we make our baby products. It’s a unique department in that it’s like a mini mill of its own. We order, twist and pick the yarn, then wash, finish and press the products. We label everything and tab it, do our own delivery notes, and put the product out the door.
