I am a furniture maker and natural dyer, working as a sole trader from my small garage workshop on the Isle of Man, which is where I grew up. I make solid timber free-standing furniture, bespoke cabinetry and naturally dyed soft furnishings. It is definitely a humble little workshop to say the least and far from a commercial set-up. Its main downfall is perhaps the lack of high-tech machinery, or maybe it’s the uninsulated structure itself, which causes the chilblains on my hands during the depths of the British winter. But the absolute joy of having my tea-breaks looking out at the Manx countryside, particularly in the spring, is second to none and I feel very lucky.
