I’m Holly and I run a studio of Savile Row tailors based in Dalston, East London, UK. We specialise in trousers, as is the norm on Savile Row. I’m a craftsperson and that’s something I have always wanted to maintain. With tailoring, you’re creating but it’s based on technique and precision, and you must always work within certain parameters as far as design goes.

Growing up, no one in my family was particularly creative, but I would make things all of the time. Mum had a friend who did embroidery and lacemaking and she taught me a plethora of traditional crafts, which kept me entertained. At 16, I got my first job, in the local haberdashery.

I took a year out before applying to university and did a City & Guilds qualification in pattern-making. As much as I was creative, I didn’t feel I fitted in with the fashion design or textiles side of things. But I loved the logic of the drafting methods and the realisation of a pattern into a finished garment – from 2D to 3D!
