I’m a coastal landscape artist working from my home studio located in a small village just outside of St Andrews, Scotland, in the UK. I paint my landscapes using my own pigments, which I make by hand from rocks and pebbles collected from along the shoreline of the area that inspires my work.

My paintings begin with walks along the coastline, taking photos and taking in the shapes and atmosphere of a place. Along the way, I look for a variety of rocks and choose a few colours to take home to my studio for pigment. The rocks then need to be broken down into powder form before I can use them. I start with a hammer and move on to a mortar and pestle, before finally using a glass muller to get the particles fine enough to use with a paintbrush.
