Since 2010, I’ve been creating high quality jeans, jackets and shirts made from Japanese denim with my label Ruttloff Jeans in my studio in Dresden, eastern Germany. As well as producing limited collections, the studio is specialised in making individual products such as custom jeans and made-to-measure jeans.

Experimenting with denim fabrics, tailoring and sewing my own jeans for friends or myself goes back a long way. At that time, I worked at home with my own sewing machine. I had begun to study fashion but had quit after three months to pursue tailoring and start my own business.

It all started with a small local circle of denim lovers. In those first years while starting my label, I pretty much lived from hand to mouth. Except for my three months of fashion studies, I have no textiles education. I am an autodidact and over the years taught myself all the parts of the process, like sketching cuts, tailoring and sewing.
