vWhen I first started the business, I was trying to work out how to build a better bike. Being a cyclist myself, I’d become quite frustrated with what was available on the high street: bikes that tend to be made in far-off countries and popped out of a mould, not necessarily built with any interest in provenance or the quality of fit or finish. I thought there must be a better way to design and make a better bike, and at the same time give people a bit more insight into the process.

There are a lot of really good bikes in the mainstream bike market but they are generally made for someone else. You can go into a shop and buy a really nice bike that’s made for Chris Froome, but it’s not necessarily suitable for your uses. At Spoon Customs, we make everything bespoke to the individual rider. We look at the individual’s needs and what they want to do with the bike, what sort of adventures they want to take it on, and then start with their body and their physiology and work from there.
